Jeffrey Compton, M.A., CST, CMT
Conscious bodywork and energy healing for body, soul and spirit.
Jeffrey was one of the original collaborators of the Balance Health of Ben Lomond team and brings with him a wealth of education, training and experience. Jeffrey received his M.A. In psychology from Duquesne university in Pittsburgh, PA in 1996. He then returned to California and the Bay Area to pursue his Psy.D. (Doctor of Psychology) at the California Institute of Integral Studies where he studied both Western and Eastern approaches to psychology. While his emphasis is in Clinical Psychology he was exposed to and pursued additional studies in Somatic Psychology and Buddhism. It was here he began his formal study and practice of Vipassana (mindfulness) and later Zen meditation.
Intrigued with his studies in Somatic Psychology (soma is Greek for 'body') Jeffrey began training in massage and manual therapies in 2001. Since then he has accrued over 850 hours of training and teaching in many modalities including Swedish, Deep Tissue, Craniosacral Balancing Therapy, Zen Shiatsu, Myofascial Release, Sports Massage, Lymphatic Drainage and Reflexology Reiki and Polarity Therapy among others. He is also certified in pre and perinatal pregnancy massage.
Jeffrey trained extensively in community mental health and truly believes that mental health and medical care are most effectively delivered if the client remains in the community, connected to people and their environment when possible. In his training and professional career he has provided a wide array of services to children, adults, couples and families including individual, group and family therapy, substance abuse counseling, crisis intervention, intensive case management, psychodiagnostic assessment and millieu therapy.
Jeffrey brings his extensive knowledge, training and practice to each integrative session in collaboration with the client's overall and specific needs and intentions. His two decades of meditative practice allow him to be fully present and attend to you as a whole individual- Body, Soul and Spirit. His intention is to assist and support your inherent health and wellness through the many modalities he has to offer.
Jeffrey has had the opportunity to develop and deliver workshops, groups and lectures on a wide variety of topics and to many audiences. He enjoys developing innovative and practical presentations utilizing diverse sources from ancient wisdom traditions to leading edge science. The common thread that unites all of his work is the relief of human suffering, simultaneously transforming the individual, their community and the world in the process. He received lay ordination in the Soto school of zen Buddhism by Carolyn Atkinson, in the lineage of Kobun Chino Otogawa Roshi and is in the process of being ordained as a Priest in the same lineage by his current teacher, Ian Hakuryu Forsberg of Hokoji Zen Temple in Taos, NM. He has been teaching meditation for the past 15 years.
He maintains a private massage and somatic therapy practice in Ben Lomond, Ca., called “Sanctus Bodywork” (Sanctus L.- sacred, holy, hallowed). It can be viewed on the web at www.sanctusbodywork.com
